All Highland Visitors....who like cake....Take Note

Voted 'One of Britain’s top ten cake shops' by the Observer Good Food guide 2007, the ‘Potting Shed’ Cake Shop here at Inshriach Nursery is better than you could even imagine. The Inshriach Nusary is only 15mins drive from www.HighlandHolidayCottages.com on the back roads to Aviemore. It is a must visit if you are staying at HighlandHoliday Cottages.

Immediately you enter the tearoom, you can’t think straight. You have just entered Decision World and at some point, the lovely lady behind the counter will need answers. You have entered homemade sponge cake heaven and you now have to make a choice... tea or coffee, while your eyes skim across the various cakes on a sort of virtual cake eating experience. Choose between a slice of creamy heaven with strawberries or a slice of even creamier heaven with seemingly every type of fruit known to man, woman and child. Having made your decision, the cakes are served on fancy china crockery complete with one of those little dessert forks. This is a cake experience second to none!

Having been supplied with goodies, off you go next to the feeding station viewing area as you load fork after fork of creamy sponge cake into your mouth, amazed every time at the lightness of the cake. Take a spot at the window and observe the comings and goings of chaffinches, siskins, greater spotted woodpeckers, blue, coal and great tits as well as red squirrels. Pine martens have visited too on occasion.

If you can’t resist beautiful plants as well as garden centres, you will be delighted with this great beauty spot. The Nursery is situated within some of the best scenic forested settings in all the Scottish Highlands. Voted “Favourite Feeding Station in Scotland” by RSPB members, this is a plant nursery with a difference!

Back to sponges! The cakes are made, we are told, by the proprietor, one Mrs Gunn Borrowman, formerly of Norway. This lady should be recommended for an OBE for services to the cake loving public.
